Healing is holy work, but doesn’t end when the tears dry or the prayer is over. Proper restoration is not a one-time moment—it’s a lifelong journey that must be nurtured, guarded, and sustained. For women who have walked through the pain of childhood trauma or emotional wounds, building resilience is essential to staying firm when life brings new storms.

Chapter 9 of Restoring the Broken Pieces explores how to sustain the healing journey through intentional practices and a renewed mindset. Life doesn’t pause just because we’ve made progress—triggers, losses, and disappointments may still come. But resilience allows us to keep moving forward, grounded in truth and supported by grace. Today, I want to share a few ways we can build that resilience so we don’t just survive but thrive.

What Resilience Means

Resilience is more than toughness or the ability to “bounce back.” In healing from trauma, resilience means learning to withstand emotional disruption without crumbling under its weight. It’s the ability to bend without breaking—to keep walking even when the road gets hard. Resilience doesn’t deny pain; it makes space for it while choosing not to be consumed. It’s cultivated, not automatic. And most importantly, it is not something we have to build alone. With God’s help and intentional daily habits, we can grow stronger one step at a time. As Chapter 9 reminds us, “Sustaining our healing isn’t about reaching a finish line. It’s about maintaining a posture of growth, reflection, and surrender each day.”

Practices That Strengthen Resilience

So, how do we build resilience in real, tangible ways? Here are a few foundational

practices drawn from Restoring the Broken Pieces that can help you remain

strong—even on the hard days.

1. Ground Yourself in Truth Every Day

Journaling, Scripture reading, and daily affirmations help keep you rooted in what’s true. Trauma can twist our perspective, but truth brings clarity and stability.

Grounding in God’s Word each morning (like Psalm 46:1: “God is our refuge and

strength”) anchors your heart for the day ahead.

2. Stay Connected to Safe, Life-Giving Relationships

Healing flourishes in connection. When we isolate ourselves, we’re more vulnerable to

lies and despair. Whether it’s a friend, support group, counselor, or spiritual mentor, stay connected to those who remind you of your worth and walk with you in

love.

3. Respond Instead of React

Triggers will happen. The difference lies in how we handle them. Resilience helps us

pause, breathe, and respond rather than explode or shut down. Grounding exercises,

breath prayer, and reflective journaling can help you move from reactivity to peaceful

presence.

4. Celebrate Small Wins Along the Way

Every day you choose healing is a victory. Don’t overlook the progress you’ve made.

When you pause to celebrate your steps, you give your heart a reason to keep going. Progress isn’t always loud, but it’s always worthy of acknowledgment.

Resilience is a Spiritual Journey

More than anything, resilience is a spiritual strength. God gives power to the

faint and increases the strength of the weary (Isaiah 40:29). As we partner with Him

daily, He fills us with endurance and grace. Resilience isn’t self-made—it’s Spirit-given.

You don’t have to have it all together to be resilient. You need a willing heart and the courage to keep rising, even when it’s hard. God will meet you in your weakness and turn it into strength. “But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength…” – Isaiah 40:31

Keep Going—You Are Stronger Than You Think

If you’re reading this and feeling weary, know this: your struggle does not disqualify you. It means you’re human and healing. You are not failing. You are growing. You are

becoming resilient. Restoring the Broken Pieces offers practical tools to sustain your healing journey. If you haven’t yet revisited Chapter 9, I encourage you to return to it today and let it remind you of the strength already within you.

Journal Prompt

Where have I shown strength I didn’t even realize I had?

Prayer for Today

Lord, help me walk in resilience today. When I feel weak, remind me that Your strength

is made perfect in my weakness. Help me remember how far I’ve come, and give me

grace to keep going. Amen.
