“The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God.”
~Romans 8:16

There’s something sacred about being called by name, but even more profound when the One calling is the King of Heaven.
In chapter 2 of She Rises in Strength, we are reminded that we are not survivors, not just good people trying to do better, we are children of God. Romans 8:16 says, “The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God.” That truth is more than a verse; it’s a lifeline. But how often do we live like royal sons and daughters with confidence, peace, and purpose? Let's explore what it means to be a child of the King, and how remembering our identity can change our perspective.
1. We Are Chosen
Being a child of God isn’t just a comforting thought; it’s a new identity. God's Word tells us we have been adopted into God’s family through Jesus Christ (Ephesians 1:5).
This means we are not bound by the chains of our past, the shame, the rejection, the fear. We are chosen, wanted, and accepted. For so many of us, our emotional lives have been shaped by experiences that made us feel unwanted or invisible. Maybe we were overlooked by a parent, betrayed by a friend, or burdened by our mistakes. But God’s love tells a different story. Like the prodigal son in Luke 15, when we return to God, He runs to us, embraces us, and calls us His own; living as God’s child means walking with the quiet confidence that we belong. We are not earning love; we are living from it.
2. Royal Inheritance, Daily Grace
Romans 8:17 says, “And if children, then heirs, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ.” What does that mean for us today?
As children of the King, we have an inheritance. It may not always look like earthly comfort or material wealth, but it seems more enduring: peace in chaos, hope in trials, wisdom in confusion, and joy that can’t be taken away. This inheritance is not a future prize to earn but a present gift to walk in. It means we can pray boldly, forgive freely, and serve joyfully because we are secure in who we are. Daily grace flows to us and through us, not because we deserve it, but because our Father delights in giving good gifts to His children.
3. Daughters and Sons Who Reflect the King
Knowing who we are in Christ affects how we treat ourselves and others. If we are truly children of God, we reflect His image, kindness, justice, patience, and mercy.
For women, this identity speaks to the deep wounds of unworthiness. You are not a backup plan. You are not too much or not enough. You are a daughter of the King with purpose and power. When you show up in love with grace and truth, you reflect His beauty to the world.
For men, your role is equally vital. Whether you are a father raising daughters, a husband encouraging your wife, or a leader guiding others, you model the heart of the Father. Your strength, gentleness, and faith have a generational impact. You help shape how those around you see God.
Living as children of the King invites us to show the world what God is like, not perfectly, but purposefully.
Conclusion: Remember Who You Are
It is easy to forget who we are when painful memories or anxious moments flood our minds. However, the truth is: We are children of God, and with that comes a new way of thinking, living, and loving.
As this week unfolds, speak it out loud: I am chosen, redeemed, and a child of the King.
Let us pray: Heavenly Father, remind me today that I belong to You. Help me to walk confidently, knowing I am loved, known, and held by Your Hands, King of all creation. Thank you, Father, for loving me as You do. In Christ alone, Amen.
